Reading has been HUGE for me during this time of transition! Here are some books I would recommend for recent graduates:
- Atomic Habits by James Clear
This book discusses habit formation and strategies for forming good habits. Clear uses engaging anecdotes to begin every chapter, making this book very digestible. As I transition to living in my own apartment, cooking for myself and working full time (wow), I will lean on the lessons I’ve gained from this book!
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo
Honestly, this book is for anyone in transition, not just graduates. I find myself rereading it when I need a bit of direction in my life. It is a story about a young Andalusian Shepard who wants to see the world. This book has some really beautiful quotes that stick with me, including “when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it” and “the simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.”
- Rising Strong by Brené Brown
Brené Brown has some really amazing books that have helped me during breakups, general struggles, and, of course, graduation. I love how honest she is about pain and resilience. When I’m reading her books, I have so much “aha” moments and highly recommend it to anyone interested in psychology and how to move through transition.
- Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton
Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton is such a gem. I talked about this book in my first blog post, but Alderton describes various romantic escapades and friendships. It is hilarious, heartbreaking and very cathartic. I loved how brutally honest she is and how, ultimately, she describes her female friends as the loves of her life. I can’t wait to read more of her work and think this book is perfect for people figuring out their lives after college.
